Does Microsoft Office Expire On Mac

Posted on  by

For the last 12 months, Microsoft has focused on getting its flagship Office suite on screens where it's never been before—iPhones, iPads, and Android tablets. The Office for OS X apps were left behind, though. Microsoft released a new version of Outlook and an official OneNote client, but the core Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps were stuck back in 2010.

That changes today. Microsoft has just released a preview of Office 2016 for Mac, a suite which will include the current versions of Outlook and OneNote alongside newly updated versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The preview runs on OS X Yosemite, it's free to use, and it includes a tool for providing feedback to Microsoft. Once the final versions of the apps ship 'in the second half of 2015,' users with Office 365 subscriptions will get the new apps immediately. There may be some kind of standalone version available for those who want it, but Microsoft hasn't said.

2020-3-25  What does end of support mean? Office 2010, like almost all Microsoft products, has a support lifecycle during which we provide bug fixes and security fixes. This lifecycle lasts for a certain number of years from the date of the product's initial release. To install Office 365 or Office as a one-time purchase, visit accounts.microsoft.com on the PC or Mac that you want to install Office on. Sign in with the Microsoft account that you used to purchase, or have already associated, with the subscription or one-time purchase product, and then follow the onscreen instructions to install Office. 2020-4-4  Office for Mac buying guide 2019. Oct 23, 2017 Check to make sure that this is not just a free demonstration subscription that came already installed when you bought the machine. If you bought the Office Suite at the same time, then you need to get in touch with the support staff where you bou. There is no Expired period for Mac users. A subscription can still be reactivated by the global or billing administrator during this stretch. Note: Microsoft balances the extra Expired time for volume licensing customers by limiting their Disabled stretch to just 30 days. Everyone receives the same 120 days before things go completely to pot, but the timelines are flipped for most corporate customers.

The new apps take the styling introduced in OneNote and Outlook for OS X and apply it to the other apps in the suite. The ribbon interface now more closely resembles the one in Office 2013 for Windows—Office for Mac 2011 was closer to its Windows counterpart than older versions, but it still looked like a product from another company. The apps integrate much better with OneDrive than the previous versions did, and they support the standard collaborative editing features present on other platforms. All apps also play nice with OS X-specific features, including Full Screen mode, sandboxes for apps, and Retina display support.

Interested users can download the beta here, and it can be installed alongside Office 2011 if you're not comfortable doing all your work in beta software. Microsoft's auto-updater will patch the apps as new versions are available. Microsoft says that each build will expire after 60 days, so don't expect free software in perpetuity.

Microsoft Office 10 has suddenly become ‘expired’. I can no longer access my Excel or Word programes. I have re-installed and entered the Product Key, but to no avail.

  1. I seriously advice you to try Open Office, files are much lighter, and you can always save as doc -as well as open those bloody docx files, etc. Fabulous extensions in the site, a community always willing to reply. It is free software, and it is also software for free.

  2. I'm not sure about 'expired', but I do know you are allowed only a certain number in installs using a given product key. If you are in the habit of re-installing software to fix problems (without doing an uninstall), you may have used up your given number of installs.

The only way you can get your key re-validated is to call Microsoft Customer Support & tell them what your problem is. They can reset the key to allow additional installs.

It is very important with newer Microsoft products to remember that you cannot re-install without uninstalling. The uninstall registers the removal of the software from the computer in the MS database online & resets that key for an additional installation.

Oh - yes, I speak from experience on this one!

    • Thanks for your response. If I unstall and re-install the software, will I lose my save documents? I find this all quite weird as there is no expiry on my software.
      Cheers Denny

      • Denny,

you will not lose saved documents when you uninstall and reinstall Office. Just don't keep them in any folders that will be deleted when you uninstall Office, i.e. the program folders.

You can actually open the office files with Open Office!

What you will lose are your settings or templates that you created. You can back those up, though and restore them later.

    • Wow! Thanks a bunch. We uninstalled a bare bones version that came with the computer with Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 and it immediately became active.
